Materials

• 2m (2¼yd) pale-grey print fabric (sashings)
• 20cm (¼yd) each of 50 assorted print fabrics
• 2.3m (2½yd) extra-wide (275cm/108in) backing fabric
• Rotary cutter, ruler and mat
• Sewing machine with ¼in foot
• General sewing supplies

Double X blocks

1 Choose two fabrics that are interesting together. Sharon used a mix of reproduction and contemporary fabrics.

From fabric #1 (the ‘background’ of the block), cut:

• one square, 5¼in. Cut it on both diagonals to yield four quartersquare triangles (B)• six squares, 3in. Cut each square once on the diagonal to yield 12• four rectangles, 2½in x 4½in (E)
