MY FIRST lesson was that you cannot breed rats out of mice. By that I mean you are not going to breed exhibition quality from lesser-quality stock. You need to buy better birds if you are going to be successful at shows.

Who do you visit and who do you buy birds from? It’s a massive decision. Go to the shows and look at the birds that are winning. Chat to fanciers and see who sells birds that do well for new people. It’s not only about who has the quality
