THE WILD KITCHEN GARDEN

he human visitors to my garden always seem rather surprised to discover that I grow fruit and vegetables. They assume that would be out of the question with all this wildlife around. In fact, the opposite is true. The pests that attack most gardeners’ vegetables are kept under control pretty effectively by the predators from my rich habitats. Far from being a threat to the neighbours’ gardens, I probably provide the majority of the ladybirds, hedgehogs and other pest-eaters that clean up their patches - unless, of course, they happen to be into wildlife gardening too,
