Modelling friends, Stephen Moore and Shaun Horrocks, have been in the hobby since the 1980s. Shaun was an early member of Alsager Club, then moved to Macclesfield Club as a result of a work relocation, while Steve did the reverse!
Both have a long-standing interest in 7mm:1ft scale, although Steve has had a foray into OO9, and Shaun has been heavily involved with the ON30 ‘Purgatory Peak’ layout and its replacement. The next project for Steve is a pair of 7mm:1ft scale small termini, one above the other, connected into a single end-to-end layout by an automated vertical lift and storage system.
On the lookout for a new layout, Ian Rice’s ‘Leintwardine’, which has a small terminus station at one end and a quarry on a higher level at the other, matched the criteria perfectly and looked as if it could be squeezed into 16ft in 7mm:1ft scale. Their interpretation of Iain’s plan is reversed front to back and has the station and quarry working semi-independently, giving movement along the scenic length.
