My father was an excellent prolific photographer when he could afford it. The earliest pictures I note were taken in 1945 while on military service in Germany. He concentrated on Deutsche Reichsbahn (German State Railways) which he photographed mostly at several engine sheds. How he got into them, I do not know, although he could speak some German. My uncle John was also a talented photographer and was helped by his older brother’s “wizardry” work in the Sunday evening darkroom sessions using his homemade photographic development equipment.
