FROM BLACK TO GREEN - ST MARGARET’S MPD UNCOVERED

As part of a huge redevelopment scheme in the area around Meadowbank Stadium in Edinburgh the original up side turntable of St Margaret’s Motive Power Depot has been uncovered and excavated back to the brickwork by a team of Archaeologists working for Edinburgh City Council. It is hoped the turntable base will become part of the development which is to include a sports centre, shops, GP surgery and 675 affordable, eco-friendly new homes. The area will be transformed from one of the most polluted parts in the city up to the mid-1960s to one of the greenest areas of the city in the 2020s. From black to green!
