Q Any tips for cooking for one or two without having too many leftovers?

—Sami L.

I get this question a lot! As someone who often cooks and eats solo, I know firsthand that comes in. It’s loaded with tips and recipes from our Test Kitchen to help you avoid overspending, overshopping or ending up with a fridge full of rotting produce. A few quick takeaways: Befriend your butcher or fishmonger and ask for smaller portions right at the counter. Shop loose-produce bins where you can get individual carrots instead of a whole bag. And since it’s hard to simply halve most recipes, embrace scaled-down versions of big-batch meals, like the pressure cooker short ribs at right.
