Oldest-surviving Hunslet heads for Bluebell branch line bonanza

THE Bluebell Railway’s April 21-23 branch line weekend will feature two Lancashire &Yorkshire Aspinall locomotives – alongside the first appearance of the oldest surviving Hunslet 0-6-0 in the UK following completion of repairs.

Built in 1888 for the construction of the Manchester Ship Canal, No.(originally named until 1898) has been undergoing cylinder and motion repairs following the failure of a connection between a piston rod and crosshead coupling rod during running in trials on the Kent & East Sussex Railway last July.
