DRAW AN ETHEREAL FANTASY CHARACTER

That feel of traditional media is something I’ve always loved, but is challenging to maintain in the digital world. In this tutorial I’ll take you through my step-by-step process for creating an illustration coloured with the speed and freedom of digital, while keeping the classic traditional vibe.

I’ll demonstrate how starting loose and messy will free you up creatively, as well as make it easier to compose accurately. From here, I’ll sketch with different coloured animation pencils and build the image up using multiple layers and passes, focusing on angles and proportions observed from a reference photo. I’ll slowly sneak up on the major shapes, smudging with fingers and erasing lines, before putting away
