If you don’t like figs, it’s likely you’ve never eaten one picked straight from the tree — deliciously ripe and warmed from the sun. Ripe figs are sweet, aromatic and full

of flavour. To find the ripest on your tree, look for those with a slight droop to their stem and a neck (the area just below the stem) that’s softened.

Fossil evidence suggests that figs were domesticated around 9000 BCE and they’ve remained a late-summer and autumn fruit favourite since.
