AN hour ago, I walked out to the field behind the stable yard here, caught one of my landlord's retired hunters and led him through the yard to a grassy area behind my house. While he stuck his head in a bucket of food and gobbled away, our kennelhuntsman quietly and quickly put him down. No fuss, no drama, just an instantaneous and peaceful end to a long and happy life.
