Fundamentally, this month’s column is dedicated to the topic of software. But before I get there, please put the popcorn in the microwave, settle in your most comfy chair, then remember the popcorn and go grab it from the microwave, because the lead-up to talk about software is a rant. In fact, I confess, this whole column might just fall into that category.

I was most pleased – even delighted – to have not one but two Lenovo laptops to play with over the final six months of 2022. Great screens, superb performance, and a chance for a curmudgeon like me to catch up with Windows 11. Eventually, there came a point where I was fully signed in using my Microsoft account from waaay back, and needed to use one of these machines to write a document or two.
