lthough their first house was a three-bedroom new-build in Blyth, Northumberland, Sophie and Adam Cooper had always hankered after an older property with character. By chance, the couple spotted a ‘for sale’ sign outside a pretty period home in Cramlington village on their way to visit Adam's grandma on New Year's Day. ‘We weren't even looking to move, but Adam said, “Shall we have a look?”,’ Sophie remembers. ‘Although it was an absolute mess, it was exactly what we wanted and I loved the wood-burning stove, ceiling rose and coving in the south-facing living room.’ After a full re-wire, re-plastering and new flooring to make the house liveable, the couple could then design each space in more detail -
