Mountain scenery, historic towns, and a splendid beer festival

Quality time with two of my sons – that was the plan. But where should we go? “Munich Oktoberfest,” replied Rupert, at 31 the eldest, without hesitation. I suspected he’d been planning this. Max, his brother, aged 24, agreed, almost too readily, so Munich it was.

The next question was how to get there and where to stay. A bonding trip such as this called for something more memorable than flights and hotels. “In a motorhome,” suggested Rup.

It sounded fun, but we only had a week and Munich is 750 miles away from Guildford, our home. Oh, and I don’t own a motorhome.

Then I remembered – you can rent them. This has always struck me as a smart idea: enjoy the latest model for as little or as long as you need it, then hand it back when you’re done.
