“Fifteen years ago, I visited Liwonde for the first time, and didn't see much of anything,” Mike Wendel, co-manager (with his partner Jenn) of Kuthengo Camp, told me when I first arrived. Run by Robin Pope Safaris, Kuthengo is the newest safari operation in the park, having opened in April 2018.
By the end of my trip, it was hard to conceive that an animal-poor Liwonde had ever existed, as my experience was the polar opposite. In just four days, split between Kuthengo and Mvuu Camp — run by Central African Wilderness Safaris, the first operator in Liwonde — my
