WITH SCORCHING SUMMER days dogged by the threat of bushfires, and winters so cold it can snow, regional Victoria’s climate can be harsh. When Katherine Post and her husband, Dr Chris Gyngell, built their Kyneton home in 2021, they knew they had to factor in climate change, which threatens to make the weather even harsher.

“There are two extremes here: very hot in summer and very cold in winter,” says Katherine of temperatures in the Macedon Ranges, on traditional Taungurung land. “To have a really comfortable home, you have to either pay a lot for heating and cooling, or build a sustainable home.”
