Jesus, Mary and Joseph—Help!

It was spring of 1967, and St. Joseph Catholic Church in Circleville, Ohio, was conducting the most sacred of Masses, presenting First Holy Communion to those students in the second grade.

I was one of those students. All decked out in a hand-me-down coat and a poorly knotted tie, I was nervous. Was I worthy? Under the ironfisted rule of Sister Marie Claude's training, I certainly felt like I was.
