Norman slingers

Company: Conquest Games Size: 27 mm ‘foot to eye’ or 29mm tall Era: Dark Ages/early medieval Price: £12.00 for six slingers

www.conquest-games.co.uk

Conquest Games has re leased a set of six Norman slingers and staff slings. Conquest's existing Norman range covers both mounted and dismounted Normans in plastic and metal, metal archers, Bretons, characters, and crossbows. Most wargamers associate Normans with the crossbow, although the Bayeux Tapestry shows Norman bows and the odd slinger. While the sling was a simple peasant weapon, it would have been used by Normans and crusading commoners alike. Staff slings in particular were used in siege warfare. The set consists of four slingers and two staff slingers. They all wear tunic and trousers; it is only their monk-like ‘pudding bowl’ haircuts that make them stand out as specifically Norman. The models are well cast – I only spotted one mould line on a small part of one of the miniatures, which is impressive. These would do well as part of a Norman army, a peasant army, or crusading pilgrims off to the Holy Land.

Summer Finnish soldiers

Company: Just Some Miniatures Size: 30mm ‘foot to eye’ or 34mm tall Era: World War II Price: $35.00 for STL (one section, command, and two support weapons)

www.wargaming3d.com

Just Some Miniatures specializes in 3D STLs for 28mm World War Two miniatures (although any STL can be resized to other scales). Its current range includes Finns and Soviets for the Winter War, plus some Volkssturm and Polish Uprising Army. The latest release is Finns in summer uniform for the Continuation War (1941–1944), where Finland allied with Germany in order to regain the territory Finland lost in the Winter War. The set provides a full squad of ten Finns in summer uniform, a five-man command squad (with two officers and three scouts), and two support weapons (a Maxim machine gun and a 37mm Bofors with crew). The miniatures are very finely sculpted with realistic poses. The models print well too. While these could be printed at smaller scales, Just Some Miniatures does specific 15mm models designed to print at smaller scales. These will be welcome additions for any Finnish commander.
