It was my last hunting day of a week-long hunt with Jamy Traut Safaris, organized by the folks at Federal Ammunition and Bushnell Optics, in order to test some of their new products, and what a week it was. In addition to representatives from the respective companies, there were two other writers from America, all eager to experience a Namibian plains-game safari. Our group had cleared customs in Windhoek fairly effortlessly, and drove the two-and-a-half hours to Rehoboth, where we met our host, PH Jamy Traut and his lovely wife Rentia. This would be my first time hunting Namibia, and I was excited to see the country. On that ride into camp where we would be hunting Jamy’s huge Panorama concession, I immediately noticed the effects of a terrible drought on the beautiful, sprawling system of sand dunes, open pans, acacia flats and rocky kopjes.
