PATTERN NOTES

The hat is worked in the round with a provisional cast-on for the brim lining. A purl round provides the turning edge to begin the Fair Isle brim. The provisional cast-on is ‘unzipped’ to join with the top of the brim, then the body is worked.

BRIM

Using a 3mm crochet hook and waste yarn, chain 120.

Using yarn E and 2.75mm needles, pick up and knit 112 sts from chain.

Pm and join to work in the round, taking care not to twist sts.

Knit 10 rounds.

Using yarn A, knit 1 round.

Wrap next st (first st of next round), turn so WS is facing and knit back across round to last st. Wrap and turn so RS is facing.

Begin Brim/Cuff Chart:

Rnds 1-3: *K1B, K1A; rep from * to end.

Rnds 4-5: *K1C, K1A; rep from * to end.

Round 6: *K1D, K1A; rep from * to
