MISSION CONTROL

Over the past few months, Clubby and I have been converting a bog-standard Honda CRF300 Rally into what we believe is an adventure riding dragon slayer. This is my third project bike build in as many years and without question it is certainly one of the most satisfying.

In my most recent Husqvarna 701 Enduro build, the bike rolled off the showroom floor with excellent engine, suspension and handling characteristics, so the mods were more personal items. And with the exception of suspension, the same rang true for my Yamaha Ténéré 700 that is now over two years old.

Don’t get me wrong, I love the bikes that I have created. But while I can’t put my finger on it, there is something a little extra special about the CRF300 Rally build.

BUDGET BE DAMNED?

This is a story of ‘hearts leading heads’, where passion takes priority over fiscal responsibility. It all started when we christened the bike the Little Red Rooster, a term of endearment that encapsulated what this bike was about and laid the foundation for an extremely loose commitment to any budget.
