Although often recited as an all-American success, Carroll Shelby’s story – and the creation of Shelby American – has many connections to the United Kingdom. Carroll Shelby influenced Ford’s global ‘Total Performance’ initiative of the early 1960s in parallel with Colin Chapman and Alan Mann.
Shelby fans had two significant anniversaries for both the Shelby company and the man himself in their diaries for 2022 and 2023. Firstly, 2022 marked 60 years since the original Shelby Automobiles company was formed on the 17th of August, 1962: the company Shelby started to build and sell his Ford-engined, AC-chassis sports cars in Venice, California.
