‘OUR CHILD HAS BEEN SHOT’

THE year started on a happy note for the young farmer and his girlfriend. Christmas and New Year were spent on his grandparents’ farm near Ficksburg, then there’d been three days of fly-fishing with his cousins. There was plenty for Evan Sorour (28) to look forward to. He worked on the family farm with his dad, Reuter, and had recently finalised plans to expand the cattle operation.

His girlfriend, Magretha Vlok (44), a structural engineer, had registered to study for an agricultural degree this year. The couple also had a goat herd and the animals were their pride and joy.
