FORGOTTEN NEWCASTLE

QUAYSIDE, c1928

Newcastle's quayside bustles with activity in the shadow of the newly completed Tyne Bridge. Taking nearly three years to build, the famous structure was, at the time of its construction, the world's longest single span bridge. Thousands gathered for its official opening ceremony on 10 October 1928, watching as King George V and Queen Mary became the first to travel across it in their landau horse-drawn carriage.
