ATOMA DIAMOND LAPPING PLATE

n Issue 171 we featured Nari Watabe-san and showcased his knife sharpening skills. One thing I noticed while watching Nari correct blade shape and hone it to perfection was his use of an Atoma lapping plate with an integrated handle. Nari would correct the flatness of his waterstones much more often than I would. My practice is to lap a waterstone flat and then hone away until I am happy with the edge. Another sharpening secret I learnt while watching Nari is to lap your waterstones mid sharpen as well as at the start. Nari also pointed out that the integrated handle on his Atoma)
