Ask Matthew…

Q I’m intrigued by the Laowa 20mm shift lens from last month’s N-Photo Gear of the Year awards, but missed the original review. Can you tell me a bit more about it?

Geoff Harrington

A We reviewed the Laowa 20mm f/4 Zero-D Shift lens from Venus Optics in issue 138, and were very impressed with it. It’s a fully manual FX-format lens that’s available in both F-and Z-mount options for £1139/$1099. It’s great for architectural photography where it can correct perspective, stopping the uprights of buildings appearing to lean inwards towards the top.
