Jan Stephenson was just 13-yearsold when she won her first big tournament, the NSW Schoolgirl Championships.
It was a title she would win another four times before moving on to the NSW Junior Championship, where she was victorious three years in a row, and the NSW Amateur, which she won twice. Even as a teenager playing out of Sydney’s Bonnie Doon Golf Club, Stephenson seemed destined for much greater achievements in the sport.
