Q I often let my car’s fuel tank get as empty as possible before filling up but I’ve heard this isn’t a good idea. Why?

A The UK has around 12 million ‘red line runners’ – drivers who allow their fuel tank get as close to empty as possible before filling up, according to Green Flag. But it’s not recommended for a couple of reasons. First, you risk running out of petrol completely – leaving you stranded.
