200 issues October 2007 – February 2023
The experts who have generously shared their knowledge with us over the past 200 issues of Who Do You Think You Are? Magazine have made an enormous difference to my research. As I have learnt, so my tree has grown and borne fruit. To mark this landmark issue, I want to pass on some of the tips that have helped me the most.
When I started out in family history, I was all for just adding more people, more branches to my family tree. Now my tree is very large, and I prefer to set myself projects for the year. I take a particular family or an individual, and try to dig deeper into their lives. It’s a great way to explore more unusual records, and get closer to your relations.
A lot has changed since I started this journey, not least the use of DNA testing. My most satisfying experience there was helping my father-in-law identify his grandfather (you can read about it at whodoyouthinkyouaremagazine.com/real-stories/dna-solved-the-mystery-of-my-dads-adoption ), and I love hearing about the brick walls DNA has broken down for others.
