A MEGA MILESTONE

HE WAS born before there were cars, telephones, cameras or radios – let alone internet and smartphones!

The world’s oldest tortoise, turned 190 years old.

Jonathan is a Seychelles giant tortoise who lives on the island of St Helena (see box).

Though he is

thought to be the world’s oldest land animal, Jonathan might even be older than people think because nobody knows exactly when he was born.

He was brought to St Helena in 1882 (140 years ago) as a gift for an important person who lived there.
