Wrapped in a coat on the side of the pitch, I let out a cheer.

With my son Ashton, then 12, punching his goalie gloves together, it was now or never.

Reaching up to save the incoming ball, he’d done it.

Loving all things football, being one of Stoke City’s biggest supporters, as well as being signed to Crewe Alexandra Club, Ashton really was footie mad!

Only, during training, in October 2020, Ashton had pulled a muscle in his right leg.

Unable to put a lot of pressure on it, that could only mean one thing – rest.

And despite regularly playing, it was Ashton’s first time being injured, so taking a quick time out, I knew he’d be back on his feet in no time.

‘I think it could be worth getting that checked out,’

Ashton’s physio said after seeing a slight swelling.

But being sent home from A&E with a pulled muscle, we had the all clear!
