HITTING THE TARGET

HAVING READ Practical Caravan’s Peter Byrne's informative article about Nottingham (Local Authority, issue 449), this looked an interesting place to visit, with lots of photo opportunities.

We booked one of the sites that Peter recommended, Holme Pierrepont Country Park, which is also home to the National Water Sports Centre.

The journey was uneventful, but our allocated pitch was occupied when we arrived and we couldn't find anyone in reception.

However, we did manage to contact the helpful site staff by phone, and they told us that it was more than likely somebody overstaying their booking. This was in fact the case; they turned up at 5pm, very apologetic.

Problem solved, we soon made ourselves at home and checked out the site facilities.

Exploring by bus

After a restful night, we decided to catch the bus into Nottingham. There's a bus stop just outside the campsite, but on inspection, we found it only operated at weekends and on Bank
