January is a good time to plant any bare-root roses. When you receive a bare-root plant, remove any packaging that it comes in and give it a drink in a bucket of water for an hour or two. If you cannot plant it within 24 hours, it should be heeled in, either in the garden or in a pot with some old potting compost covering the roots.
