‘At Pooley Bridge … walkers can take the network of paths and bridleways onto Barton and Askham fells, at Moor Divock and onto the old Roman road, High Street, that runs all along, by High Raise (802m) and Kidsty Pike (780m). The ‘road’, now merely a pathway, eventually reaches the Windermere basin, linking the Roman fort at Brougham to the fort at Waterhead, Ambleside. It offers superb walking.’
