What A renovated farmhouse with a contemporary extension

Sitting in a wildflower meadow in rural Aberdeenshire, this eco-conscious home seamlessly unites a Victorian granite farmhouse with a large, contemporary extension. It's a laudable achievement, made all the more impressive by the fact that this is the architectural designer's first house.

“I've done extensions before but not a whole house,” says Callum Barrack of Aberdeen's Polka Design Studio. “I had already worked with the client, Steve Gray – he and I collaborated on the design and build of an office for his renewables company in Aberdeen. So when he said, ‘I'm going to build a house, are you interested?’, I was definitely on board.”
