Not everyone would be brave enough to embark on a big extension project while raising two young children, but Fliss and Daniel Beasley weren’t fazed. Luckily, baby Ivy turned out to be a very deep sleeper. ‘She literally slept through hours of drilling, hammering and general chaos,5 says Fliss. ‘Trying to extend a house while you’re living in it, working and looking after two young children might not be everyone’s idea of fun, but it really didn’t bother us. We just got on with it, knowing it would be worth it in the end.’
