In October 2009, Paul Myers and his partner Claire found themselves looking for a new car to have in the shed. The pair had narrowed it down to two: this 1969 Chevrolet Camaro or a VK Holden Commodore. To say Claire was unimpressed with the VK is something of an understatement. To her “it was just a Commodore” and that immediately removed it from the list, so the Camaro it was.
The Aucklanders spied the listing on Trade Me. The car was located in Hastings and Paul had his best mate Mark Wilson go to have a look at it to see what it was like. He reported back with two words: “It’s fixable” — not exactly the response Paul was wanting. However they decided to take the plunge and buy it based on the few pictures they’d seen and Mark’s word only, fingers crossed.
