The lace painter

Painting lace might seem daunting, but it's not as hard as it looks. I have always had a love for fabrics and fashion, and enjoy challenging myself with painting various textures, but once I added lace to the challenge, I was hooked! The transparency of lace, the patterns, the fact that you can drape it into folds and pleats, all added to the challenge of figuring out how to paint it in oils. Over the years I've tried various approaches (often within a single painting) and figured out what works well and what doesn't. Of course, there are lots of ways to paint something but in this article, I hope to explain a few techniques that worked for me.
