I was, for the first time in my professional career, wearing shorts. When I first qualified, the wearing of a collar and tie with an (invariably) heavy cotton check shirt and trousers were de rigueur for a country vet, and the wearing of any sort of branded clothing –and God forbid, shorts – would have been seen as the height
