December thoughts and conclusions

THIS has been my first show season with my Border canaries. I was delighted to win best novice with a variegated buff cock at Whitehaven CBS and took three class wins there too. I was due to show again at the Border Canary Association show at Galashiels on November 5-6, but the ever-creeping footprint of bird flu put a stop to that, with the show cancelled a few days in advanced.

Other Border shows have fallen foul of this insidious disease. As I write this, the Welsh Border, East of England, North of Scotland and Southern have all been cancelled and more shows have been called off in other areas of birdkeeping too. What terribly bad luck for all of those involved in
