‘TACKLING FOOD POVERTY MADE SENSE’

Jane Byam Shaw OBE, 62, and her husband Justin set up The Felix Project to combat food waste and hunger in London, in memory of their son Felix, who died in 2014. She was awarded an OBE in the Queen’s Birthday Honours 2022 for services to the community in London.

Our son Felix was a kind and compassionate boy. He loved nature. He had a special passion for hedgehogs, and we rescued them together when he was little. When Felix died suddenly from a virulent strain of meningitis at the age of 14, the pain was overwhelming. My husband Justin started looking for a project we could set up in his memory – something with a social purpose to reflect the issues our son had felt passionately about. Felix loved food and the thought of anyone going hungry was unbearable to him.
