ABOUT ME I’m Olga Prinku, 40, an artist, embroiderer and author (prinku.com). I live here with my husband Andrew, 48, a journalist, and our son Matty.

MY HOME A detached four-bedroom house near Stockton-on-Tees. We bought it in December 2013.

WHEN WE MOVED IN The house was built in 1963 and although it had been well-loved, the interior was very dated. There were lots of wallpapers, ugly storage heaters and an old-fashioned wood-type kitchen with lino flooring.

AND NOW We’ve completely renovated the interior and added a new kitchen and bathroom.

STYLE TIP Good-quality quartz worktops have made our budget kitchen look much more expensive.
