Piscop, a prolific puzzlemaker, has had quite a career. He’s published more than 150 crosswords in the New York Times; he’s edited crosswords for both the ; and he’s written several books, including 1998’s , anticipating the vogue for these challenging puzzles by almost two decades. Among his many accomplishments are constructing the first daily crossword in the to carry a byline and creating the crossword that comedian Jon Stewart used to propose to his then-fiancée.
