“THIS is the best possible start to a birthday that anyone could have,” exclaimed our host, Rosie Vestey, as we met at her home to celebrate a special birthday. “And a 70th is properly scary,” she revealed.

Senior master Michael Little had earlier welcomed the celebratory crowd: “We owe Rosie a huge debt of gratitude, not only for being a master for eight seasons - and a very popular one, too - but for allowing us to come here to Foxcote at least four or five times a season, where we all have a wonderful time.”

Before hounds headed to the first draw, a birthday cake, made by Mary Mustoe, was presented to Rosie. A rousing rendition of Happy Birthday and “three cheers” for the birthday girl then ensued.
