AS BLUES GUITAR EVOLVES over the decades, different influences filter in and undoubtedly techniques progress and tones refine. But certain elements always remain, as listening to a few of the current generation of players such as Oz Noy and Philip Sayce will demonstrate. This issue, I’ve chosen to model the solo (approximately) on the style of another modern blues player, Matt Schofield, particularly his rendition of Elmore James’s Stranger Blues.
