ANYONE WHO HAS ever experienced an aching tooth will know how painful it can be, as well as the efforts they are prepared to go to to relieve the horrendous discomfort. An emergency trip to the dentist, though, is likely to swiftly solve the problem. Unfortunately, however, our horses don’t have this same ability to express pain and ask for help.
MEET THE EXPERT
DR MELISSA EMSON is an equine vet and dentist. After qualifying from the University of Liverpool vet School as a vet in2002, She spent nine years working in equine practice in and around the north-east and north-west before setting up one of the first mobile equine veterinary dental practices in the UK. Since then, she has provided routine and advanced dental treatments to all types of horses, ponies and donkeys in the North Yorkshire and County Durham areas. Melissa is a member of the British Association of Equine Dental Technicians (BAEDT).
