We're standing on the balcony of an over-water bure gazing out over the impossibly blue waters that lap Likuliku Lagoon Resort and looking for sea turtles. A ladder dips straight down into water so that the lucky guests who get to bed down here have ready access to snorkelling the coral reef below. We spot something in the water. We think it might be a wandering manta ray, but on closer inspection it’s an inanimate object. A broken umbrella perhaps, that got away from a guest in a split second? No sooner have we spotted it, resort manager Tulia Seru is radioing a team member to speed out here by boat and retrieve it from the crystal-clear lagoon. Such is the dedication to preserving this extraordinary natural environment.
