At the end of September, Google Stadia VP and general manager Phil Harrison published a blog post that announced the platform’s rather abrupt closure. “While Stadia’s approach to streaming games for consumers was built on a strong technology foundation,” says the former Xbox boss, “it hasn’t gained the traction with users that we expected so we’ve made the difficult decision to begin winding down our Stadia streaming service.”

That blog post was the first that many developers working on Stadia games had heard that their destination platform was soon to vanish from existence. Cue much consternation and a spree of multiplatform announcements, including one, previously a Stadia exclusive.
