Massey-Harris-Ferguson launched the new Ferguson FE 35 tractor in 1956 to replace the monumentally successful Ferguson TE-20 family of tractors. It was seen as a big step forward for the brand that had become famous after tractor production began in Coventry in 1946 and the merger of Ferguson and Massey-Harris in 1953.

The FE 35 was quite different to the TE-20, with a brand-new bonnet style and many new mechanical features that took the Ferguson tractor to the next level. Its design was based on the developments made by the American arm of the Ferguson company, with the original TE-20 and the later TO-30 and then the TO-35. Massey-Harris’s involvement was nominal, as this tractor model gradually developed firmly entrenched in the Ferguson side of the business.
Finished in a very distinctive take on the grey used for the TE-20, now featuring a splendid gold finish for the mechanical units, the FE 35 was actually only destined for a rather short life in its original form. This was because the cumbersome Massey-Harris-Ferguson organisation was being streamlined into a
