Title moves across Kanagawa

Yokohama F. Marinos won their fifth J. League championship and first since 2019 on the final day of the 2022 season. Just as in 2019, the success once again prevented their Kanagawa neighbours Kawasaki Frontale from winning three titles in a row.

This time around, Yokohama held an eight-point lead over Kawasaki with four games remaining and might have won the title with three games to spare. Yet consecutive defeats to struggling Gamba Osaka and Jubilo Iwata saw their lead whittled down to just two points, while Kawasaki maintained the pressure with four straight wins to the finish.
